Plenty of ways. The first one that comes to mind is courier and postal costs. Where in the past we had to send a CD or tape - now audio can be sent in a flash via FTP or e-mail. Many of my clients still want a CD, whether it's my voice demo or their final voice-talent product. While I can understand their need for wanting a CD, producers now have the option of getting the audio delivered via FTP or e-mail, convert the file to .wav and burn their own CD if they like.
You can save money on faxing (phone bills and paper) by sending invoices and scripts as a document attachment, or using one of the Internet fax services such as J-Fax which will send you any fax as an e-mail attachment - great for the traveller!
Still another way to save money - and enhance remote recording sessions - is using a program like MSN Messenger or Netmeeting in place of a "phone patch" recording session. The (audio) bandwidth is similar to a phone line, which means your audio sounds about the same - and you don't have to pay for a long distance call!
I turned on a client to this method of recording a session and he was thrilled! Not only was he saving money, but his client loved the sound of the audio and he could send me the music he was using for the ad in real time over the Internet. Want to get really fancy? Stream video as well and let your client see the talent in studio! Now that's a remote recording session!
